Situated within drawing, collage and performance, retrieving Mikie presents a collision of ink, pastel, pencil and random fragments of reclaimed billboard posters. An artefact of happenstance, this work describes the liveness of a physical performance, the immediacy of the gestural line ruptured by the decay of weathered objects. Recalling a personal encounter with an emergency retrieving Mikie underscores the coincidental and precarious nature of being and time’s induced decay.

Kellie won the CAPO Prize of $1000 for her wall drawing with video projection Retrieving Mickey. The judges were Canberra artist ex DeMedici and Professor Susan Best, Convenor of Fine Art and Art Theory at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University.

This prize is for drawing in either traditional drawing media and techniques, or non-traditional works that extend understanding of what drawing may be within contemporary art practice.
